Here are some of the more popular phrases, their definitions, and examples of how I hear them used on a daily basis (the conclusions you may draw whilst reading the examples are probably as skewed as mine are!):
- Kill it = finish it all (ex. "Are you gonna kill that bag of chips?")
- Crash = sleep (ex. "If you guys want to drink a lot tonight, you're welcome to crash here.")
- Heads up = look out (I remember this from my soccer days. What does it mean, anyway?)
- Frip = trick (ex. "Don't believe that commercia. It was a frip on you." He got this one from Willy Wonka)
- Chew on = eat (ex. "I'll just grab something to chew on here.")
- Oh doh! (said as one word) = that's not good! (ex. "Oh doh! I killed all the chips!")
And don't be fooled...most of these phrases and words have rubbed off on me. On any given weekend day, as we're walking around town doing whatever, it's not unusual to hear us say "oh doh" at least a dozen times in one hour!
What secret language is spoken at your house?
