1. Ten years ago: I was living in Greeley, CO, on winter break from attending University of Northern Colorado and living in a cheap but GREAT townhouse just across the highway from the mall. My bedroom had a teenie tiny balcony that overlooked said highway and when I couldn’t get to sleep some nights, I would count the seconds between 18 wheelers going by. Anyway, at this exact time of year, I stayed in Greeley to work over the break, trying to teach myself some work ethics. I got a job at Hallmark the day after Thanksgiving. I would clean the glass display cases, restock Precious Moments ornaments and guard the calendar kiosk in the middle of the mall. I lasted three weeks into the holiday madness. Thus marks the end of my career in retail.

2. One year ago: I was in the midst of a neurotic attack of perfection. My mom was coming to spend Christmas day with us and, for some reason, I decided that my house had to be absolutely perfect for her. I scrubbed and cleaned till my fingers were raw. I decorated and hung things by the chimney with care. I worked my ass off for weeks to get our house perfect for her arrival. When we brought her over on Christmas Eve for our special shrimp dinner and movie-watching, she fell asleep by 6:30. Too many pain meds or something. I was livid. Thus marks my final attempt to please my mother.

3. Five things I enjoy doing: (1) stitching beadwork; (2) reading a good book in bed; (3) shopping with my Honey (4) “playing TiVo”; (5) my job.

4. Five bad habits: (1) Candace said: “Sloth. Definitely sloth.” I’ll second that emotion. (2) Getting addicted to computer games (3) Not knowing when to shut my mouth. (4) eating every meal in the TV room (5) Chewing the skin around my fingernails.

5. Five things I say a lot: (1) “Oh, Doh!” (2) “Niiiiice” (sarcastically) (3) “Wha’s him do?” (4) “Hims sweep” (5) “No Des!”
