Valentine Fun
Holidays are a big BIG deal at school. (FYI: “school” means the preschool where I teach at, “class” means the college where I learn at - same place just across the street from each other. Got it?)
Anyway, they’re a BIG deal. Last week, our theme was “Emotions” so that we didn’t just end up making tons of heartsy-valentine stuff and end up overdosing on pinks and reds. Needless to say, the only “Emotions” depicted in the kids’ activities was “Happy.” That’s cool.
So this week’s theme is Olympics. But before we could really put the sporty patriotic theme into full swing, we had to get through the annual Valentine’s Breakfast.
Every Vday the school hosts a breakfast for the kiddos and their parents. This is the first one I’ve attended. It was cute but chaotic! We had two teachers manning griddles making PINK pancakes. The little tables were covered with white tablecloths and each had a single fake rose in a bud vase as a centerpiece and red placemats that the kids had painted with white hearts. Classical music played in the background. We even had one of those big metal warming box for the sausage that you see at most fancy buffets. All was well and busy until more and more parents showed up. About 70 people filtered through our little room in the course of an hour and a half.
With more parents, comes more party treats. And what better excuse to load up the kiddos with sugar and then leave them at the mercy of their teachers all day than Valentine’s Day!
So first went the pancakes. Then we had chocolate covered doughnuts with sprinkles, heart-shaped cookies, cupcakes and OJ to wash it all down! A handful of kiddos busted into their treat bags and gorged as much candy as they could before they were busted. All this before 9 AM!!!!!
We spent most of the rest of the morning outside running the sugar out of our systems! By the time lunch rolled around, they were crashing from their sugar highs. Unfortunately, they don’t crash and sleep, they crash and get grumpy and mean. I’ve never seen such a wiggly naptime. Ya’ll know I love the hell outta my job but, to be honest, I was so glad to get out of there when 2:00 rolled around!
My Honey spoils me on Vday. We have love all the time but we do enjoy this particular day to be smushy and gushy to one another. Surprised me with a box of my favorite chocolates this morning and a big ole beanie baby monkey in stuffed into my purse (I discovered him as I was driving to work, digging for my chapstick!). He also got me a Calvin Klein Euphoria perfume set complete with lotion and a free gift with purchase: a purdy stearling silver bracelet. Ohh la la. I am so tres chic!
By the by, today was the first day in three weeks that I felt very little pain in my gut. By 4:00, I realized the only thing I did differently today (just by chance) is that I hadn’t had any dairy products. I finally got the damn GI doc’s office to call me back with my NORMAL ultrasound results. So I requested an endoscopy (weee. fun. not.). Should get that scheduled sometime tomorrow. In the meantime, I’m trying to stay away from dairy for a couple days and see how I feel. I better not be lactose intolerant! THIS GIRL LOVES HER CHEESE!!!!!
