Patients are Customers Too
Quick update….
Some nurse at the GI’s office I had gone to last week, called on Tuesday night to report my ultrasound results were normal. I told him that the tech had mentioned a kidney cyst. He said, “Oh that’s usually nothing to worry about.” Okay. Fine. We went back and forth about what to do next (he had no idea and apparently wasn’t qualified to give me any advice). We concluded with the decision that he would have someone call me the next day to schedule an endoscopy. I told him THREE TIMES that I would not be home so the scheduling gods should call me at my place of business; not my cell phone, and not at home. At work. He confirmed they had the number and that they would call there the next day. Wednesday evening on my way home from work and class, I had still not heard from them. No calls at work, nothing on my cell phone. I got home to find they had left a message at 11am to schedule the procedure. RAWR! That was the last straw. I was over the edge.
Honey and I both have about 12 years of Customer Service experience. So, when he helped me figure out that the treatment I’ve gotten from this doctor’s office falls under the Bad Customer Service category, I knew we had to do something. Honey called in a complaint. The head administrative assistant called me in return and heard my complete detailed account of the entire ordeal. She was extremely concerned and listened carefully to my complaints. I think she was taking notes. She said that she was going to speak directly with the boss of the Physician’s Assistant I saw last week and try to work something else out. She offered to line me up with another one of their doctors to proceed with my treatment and care. I agreed but assured her that I had an appointment with another doctor this afternoon. I wasn’t willing to hold my breath for them any longer.
Well, good things come…She and a person in charge of scheduling called me late this morning and lined me up directly with and actual DOCTOR - hand picked for me. Naturally, first she tried to get me to go all the way downtown for the proceedure late next week. I hummed and hawed over that and stressed that I really wanted something done sooner. She quickly recovered and counciled with the admin lady I had spoken to last night and they scheduled me for an endoscopy with this doctor first thing Monday morning near home! HORRAY! SUCCESS!!!!
Here’s the catch: I’m feeling 98% better than I was last week! Go figure. I still get the same pain in my gut in the evenings and it is tender and sore when I press on my kidney area where the tech saw the cyst. My instinct tells me that something is wrong in my body. So, in order to take care of myself, I should still get this procedure done (no matter how much I HATE endoscopies!!!!) to find out what’s wrong. C’est la vie.
That’s all I have to report. I’m glad to have the day off. This has been a pretty bad week at work. I definitely didn’t love it as much as I normally do. Maybe the honeymoon phase is officially over. Boo hoo.
