Still a Junkie…
Have I mentioned I’m a shameless TV junkie? And have I noted that TiVo is definitely not the cure for said addiction?
As if watching Medium, Law & Order: SVU; ER; My Name is Earl; Desperate Housewives; Grey’s Anatomy; Monk and Scrubs weren’t enough, in the summer’s off season, I’ve added more to my repertoire!
House - I’m a sucker for medical shows. I started watching St. Elsewhere when I was little and haven’t let up since! I live vicariously as a doctor through these shows. I’ve already mentioned how fantastic an actor Hugh Laurie is in this show but the path to correct diagnoses is what really keeps me coming back for more! Oh, and Wilson…am I the only one who remembers him as the troubled and struggling young wanna-be-actor from Dead Poets’ Society? Poor Puck shot himself in the end. Boo hoo.
Nip/Tuck - This show is FUCKED UP. That’s right. I dropped the big F-bomb. But truly, there is no other way to describe it. I only started watching last seasons’ re-runs a couple weeks ago and try as I might to resist it, I was hooked immediately. I saw this season’s premiere already and I’m currently working on the first two seasons on DVD. It’s not so much a medical drama as it is a really FUCKED up show with crazy characters. And ever since he played Cole on Charmed, I’ve been hooked on Julian McMahon’s bad boy image. Bravo!
Lost - GOOD GRAVY! Now I know what everone has been talking about with this show! All the time I hear from people, “You don’t watch Lost? Oh you should totally watch Lost!” We rented the first disc of the first season from Netflix. After those four episodes were done playing, we ran out to Best Buy to purchase the whole season because we simply could not wait another week or two for the next rationing from Netflix! We even pre-ordered Season Two, which we have since picked up and begun. The problem is, in between finishing season one and starting season two, I watched one of those “catch up tidbits” shows about Lost and caught a couple spoilers. I know who dies and I knew about what was in the hatch, etc as a result. I’m bummed that I saw all that but I still don’t get it. But what a wonderfully crafted show!!! The writing is phenomenal and I’m always holding my breath waiting to see how everyone’s lives had connected long before they boarded flight 815!
Eureka - As far as SciFi channel originals go, this one’s not too shabby. The acting is horrible but hopefully they’ll settle into their characters as the show progresses. That’s how it was with the actors on 4400. It took them a while to become believeable to me. Anyway, the story line of Eureka is total fantasy but it almost pokes fun at itself for being so. The scientific/almost-magical concepts that come up on the show are intriguing.
Supernanny - I think I watch this show to teach myself the difference between teaching and mothering. All in preparation. Basically, though, I’ve figured out that this show is just like the Dog Whisperer except with small people instead of canines. Nanny Jo tells it like it is and isn’t afraid to get the parents and kiddos in line. Unfortunately, though, I don’t think most of the participants of the show really follow through with her suggestions in the long term. It’s just too damn hard, I bet.
Oh, there’s more….30 Days, One Week to Save Your Marriage, Cash Cab, Sopranos…the list goes on. It’s a wonder I get anything else done with all these damn shows I watch. I’m pretty sure I would die without cable. If you haven’t seen any of the aforementioned shows, hopefully my brief reviews stimmulated a slight interest in you and you’ll check one of them out. If you do, I’d love to hear what you think!
