We’ve returned from snowy Santa Fe! WHEW!
It was a fun, but interesting, trip! Last Thursday, we drove from Denver to Santa Fe (6 hour drive) through patches of snow flurries, rain storms, and slushy roads. After our arrival, we unpacked and went to dinner just as it started to snow. And snow it did…
It did not stop for three days.
On Friday, we strapped on our snow boots, heavy coats and touristy apparel and headed out to the Plaza for some gallery gazing and retail therapy. Unfortunately, we found that only half the stores and galleries were open and the other half were closing early as a result of the continual snow. We gave up and headed back to our condo. We tried going to the nearby indoor mall on Saturday, only to find the majority of the little shops closed. Again, because of the snow. Sunday, the snow began to falter so we tried our luck at Canyon Road which is known for it’s elite art galleries and shopping. Most of the places along Canyon Road were closed because the snow was piled up at least 2 feet high everywhere we turned. We did visit an incredible gallery called the Chalk Farm Gallery. I’m a big fan of surreal art and this place was chalk-full of it! (pun intended) I also found a gorgeous lapis pendant and earrings at a reasonable price (on sale!) at the Silver Sun. We also had lunch and some gourmet teas at a place called the TeaHouse. Incredible food and exquisite tea! It sparked an interest in exploring tea cafes in my own area!
Needless to say, we weren’t able to do as much in Santa Fe as we wanted to because we were smack in the middle of the biggest snow storm since 1958. I did, however, get a lot of knitting done (after I located and confirmed that my favorite yarn chain store was open!). I worked on three scarves and finished one. I also got addicted by VH1’s marathon of last season’s Beauty and the Geek (the new season premiere is on tonight!).
We had a great time with our family in Santa Fe. Although, we spent most of the time talking about what we plan to come back and do in the Spring when everything melts!
Honey got a new fancy camera for his Bday and took lots of great pictures which are forthcoming.
Glad to be home to settle into the new year!
