Don’t hate me because I’m smart
When I was in the third grade, I was repeatedly punished for finishing my assignments and reading ahead of the class. Ms. Hood would write my name on the chalkboard for all to see, keep me from going out to recess and other such torturous methods of punishment. My parents threw multiple fits and eventually pulled me out of public and into private schools. I can’t help it that I’m a fast learner.
It seems I am being punished all over again…
So I’m currently taking my last class before I graduate, BIO 105, otherwise known as Biology-for-non-Science-majors….otherwise known as Biology-For-Dummies. It’s the easy biology. And yeah, it’s taken me 10 years to complete my two year degree…SHUDDUP!
But I digress…
So I’m in this Bio-for-dummies class and it’s rocking my world. Soooo interesting (once we got past the basic chemistry crap) and I’m learning a lot. I got an A on my first exam last week, the second highest grade in the class. The lady who got the highest grade is a woman about my mom’s age who has just returned to college this semester. She is also in my Lab group.
So late last week, as our instructor congratulated us on our awesome exams, she pulled me and this other lady aside and asked us if we would take this superUltimateIncredibleDingDong chick under our wings and help her out. This chick is…beyond annoying. She’s a freshman, clearly, and she still has the “Resist-all-attempts-to-learn-something-knew” mentality that we all suffer from in high school. She should’ve lost it by now. But she questions EVERYTHING (I am not exaggerating) that my instructor lectures on and although I missed last week’s lab class, I heard that she was on her damn cell phone throughout most of the lab.
Now…oh joy…I get to help her out. I am bubbling over with excitement.
Sure, our instructor made it an optional favor but I couldn’t really say no, since I’m flattered that she asked us in the first place. And I take pity on the poor DingALing chick. And I can’t help it that I’m a natural born teacher.
So we agreed to help her for one lab class and see how it goes. If she is fighting us tooth and nail to learn anything new then we’re dumping her. We’ve made this clear to our instructor because we don’t want our own grades to suffer by carrying her extra weight.
Lab is tomorrow. Wish me luck!
And oh, while you’re at it, pleeeeeeeeeeeeease go congratulatemy dear friend Maggie on her recent news! Her first child is a blessed little creature….I can only imagine how she can top that!
