Life’s Better on Two Wheels
Remember last August, when Honey completed the Motorcycle Safety Course and then got his own training wheels? Well, there has been much talk around our house lately of his desire to upgrade said training wheels. He got a very nice annual bonus from work and it’s already burning a hold in his pocket. For a few days last weekend, after pouring many beers into The Boss -aka yours truly- we were going to get him his own Harley. But after the hangover and serious flu ailments wore off, The Boss wised up and nixed the Harley idea. We compromised on another “Rice Burner” but with a bigger engine.
Today we went on a ride with my dad and got me some leather chaps and a vest. Then we went to look at a used Yamaha RoadStar in the area and Honey fell in love. On Tuesday, Honey is going to go buy that bike (for an extremely reasonable price!) and be happy.
The whole plan was to buy this new bike for about twice what we paid for his Honda, then sell his Honda to make some money back. But all the way home from looking at this Yamaha, I was bit by the motorcycle bug myself!!!
When I was like 9 years old my dad had me on a motorcycle. A little dirt bike. He’d put me on it and we’d tool around paths in the foothills. I loved it! Then as I got older, I spent many hours on the back of his Harley. Again…loved it.
I took the Motorcycle Safety Course almost 10 years ago with his then-fiancee but I got some bad test anxiety the day of the test and failed miserably.
So on the ride back today, I kept wanting to drive the motorcycle myself, instead of sitting in the backseat behind Honey. I couldn’t stand it. I was barely off the bike in our driveway back home when I brought this new idea up: I take the safety course again, pass the test no problem (because I’ve cured my test anxiety problem!) and keep Honey’s Honda as my very own motorcycle!!! OMG! WHY NOT!?!? I mean, we can’t make a baby until next year at least and once I start makin’ babies, we all know motorcycling will never be a priority hobby for me. So now is the perfect time to start! His Honda may be too small for him but he and dad both say it’s the perfect size for me (I think it’s a little big but mostly I’m just intimidated by it’s power!).
I signed up for the course and am taking it this weekend (the first weekend it’s offered this year!). It’s Friday night and then all day Saturday and all day Sunday. Whew.
Look out, Colorado! There’s gonna be a new Motorcycle Mama on the loose pretty soon!
…and, oooooweeee! My mother’s going to F-R-E-A-K O-U-T!!!! >:)
