On Recovery
Wooo weee. Periodontal surgery is not fun. I’ve got 12 stitches (maybe only 10 - one part is so swollen I can’t count them back there) in half of my mouth, top and bottom. The swelling has finally subsided a lot and the pain is now manageable with Ibuprofen instead of narcotics. I missed work and school again today but I’ll be back at it all tomorrow. I am going to a staff meeting at work tonight since it’s important stuff and it only comes around once a month. But I ain’t showering for it. Nope. Those ladies will just have to grin and bear me in my groggy-ness until tomorrow morning when I can arrive at work freshly showered and make-up’ed.
All went well during my recovery. Friday afternoon, as I slept off the sedative on the couch, Honey swapped out my ice pack every 20 minutes. I’d mumble and moan a bit as he’d remove or replace the ice pack. He’s so sweet to do that. Saturday, my mom came over to help out for a few hours. She made us some meatloaf to eat on Sunday and just hung out and chatted with me. It was like old times with her. That’s exactly the kind of mom I want her to be in my life. I wonder if it’s too much to ask? My dad stopped by, too, to bring me flowers and hugs. It was weird and unexpected having them both there at the same time. They both stammered and stuttered a bit until mom left the room to “make some phone calls.” Sunday, Honey went off with his parents and sister to Easter brunch for MIL’s birthday. I had zero energy and lots of pain so I stayed behind. THANK GODDESS FOR TIVO!!! Most of the time I’ve been sleeping and trying to take all my medications on time. It’s still sore and uncomfortable but no longer as painful as it was. I am on a soft foods diet for probably a couple of weeks until at least the stitches are removed.
I feel like the poster child for Flossing and Proper Dental Care. This makes me want to preach to the kids at school and everyone else I encounter, “FLOSS YOUR TEETH! It only takes two minutes every day! If your gums bleed when you do it, they will stop bleeding the more you keep up with it! BRUSH TWICE A DAY AND FLOSS YOUR TEETH!”
Now, be honest, how many of you actually floss your teeth every day? Every other day? Once a week? Once a month? EVER??? I’m curious. Mostly because I need to know how much of a guilt trip to send ya’ll on!
