Vacation
We slept till 11:30 this morning! We were complete bums! It was perfect because we haven’t done that since college!
Eventually, we got moving and out of the hotel. We headed towards the Galleria mall. We love shopping. Although, truth be told, I usually stay far away from shopping malls on Saturdays and even farther away in the month of December! Yikes! Did I tell you yet about our rental “car?”
We got in to Houston so late Tuesday night that our rental car company were out of cars. Almost completely. I had reserved us a full sized car but all we got to choose from were 15-person passenger vans! So we picked a silver one. For three of us! LOL This thing is HUGE! It has four rows of seats in the back and it’s a bitch to park (I’m guessing so, anyway, I won’t drive that monster!). So we drove it to the mall today and tried to park in the parking garage. You know those yellow bars that hang down at the entrance of parking garages that say “Clearance 6′xx” or whatever? Have you ever actually run into one of those?! We did! Well, sort of. More like the sign that said “Clearance 6′ 6″” began to scrape along the roof of the van. So we backed up and found a spot on the TOP level of the garage. It was hilarious. Such a ginormous vehicle for just two of us now (Frank went home yesterday).
We cruised the mall for a little bit and had a nice late lunch at the Cheesecake Factory. Eating is sort of difficult for me right now - not sure why but I tend to lose my appetite just a couple of bites into most meals. But I was able to eat all of a large crab cake, some steamed veggies and a bit of bread. Good for me! Dodging large bumbling families and generally rude teenagers, I ran out of energy after about an hour at the mall. We left there and scouted out the local Harley Davidson shop for Honey to buy a t-shirt and me a couple cute hats. Then we headed back “home” to the hotel, where we are now, relaxing again.
I made a great effort to not talk about cancer or my cancer-related topics while we were at the mall, lunch and Harley shop. It was quite difficult to find other things to talk about since that’s pretty much ALL that’s been going on with me lately. I got a great email from a friend of a friend today that had tons of tips and suggestions for dealing with hairloss and chemo that I wanted to share with Honey. Also, I wanted to talk with him about coordinating more doctors appointments when we get home. But I bit my tongue almost the whole time. I racked my brain but was eventually able to come up with other things to talk about. I could tell he was grateful for it, as was I!
Not sure what we’re going to do with our mini-vacation tomorrow. There’s really not a lot in Houston that we’re interested in seeing or doing and with that enormous vehicle, I’d hate to burn all the gas it may require to drive out of Houston to see some sights. Hmmmm. We may just bounce around downtown some more and try to get over to my aunt’s for dinner. We’ll see.
