The Good News First
The Good News is that my tumor has not grown in the past 2 months! The bad news is that the doctor cannot distinguish “dead tumor” cells from “still live and being nasty” tumor cells via the CT scan only - we’d need a surgeon to go inside and take a look. Which we are not interested in doing at this time since all we really need to know is that it hasn’t grown any.
The Better News is that my doc is presenting my case again to her Tumor Board next Wednesday, to get their collective ideas as to what should be the next step. She is strongly considering localized chemo or embilization. Localized means I’ll probably still come back to the infusion center (or maybe I’ll get a take home pump?) but instead of running through my whole body, the chemo will be pumped directly to the tumor on my liver. In contrast, I *think* embilization means a port will be installed directly to the hepatic artery which will then carry chemo through the blood supply throughout the entire liver. I’m not sure I really understand how these two are so different but that may be part of the reason I don’t have a medical degree! Contrary to popular belief, WebMD is not a med school!
The Best News is that my liver function has actually improved over the past few months! We had to laugh at that because with this type of tumor working so hard to smother my liver, it’s amazing that the liver is functioning well despite the smothering! So I guess laying off the margaritas is actually paying off! Horray!
Well, the meds are starting to make me a little loopy and droopy-eyed. It’s naptime for me. Catch ya on the flip side!
