Resting Games
Maggie, you’re totally right. I do need a rest! Last night I danced too much and stayed up way too late. I tried to not take any Ambien last night, since I am on vacation and shouldn’t have anything to worry about, right? Wrong. I was awake until 3am worrying about…everything. So Pete rolled me out of bed at 9:30am and took me downstairs for breakfast. But I skipped the Ladies Luncheon in town and instead stayed in bed all day long. I got lots of sleep and Pete brought me back some leftover pizza from his lunch with Frank and John.
We had dinner at the Beach Club Grill and our waiter was Floyd: a very large and jovial black man from Barbados. He talked Honey into ordering a bucket of Voodoo Juice: five kinds of flavored rum and three juices. He ended up drinking two of them! I asked Floyd if he’d help me carry him out of the restaurant, should it come to that! Thankfully, it did not. I ordered the Surf and Turf but asked to substitute the Turf with more Surf. So technically, I guess I had the Surf and Surf - more lobster for me! YUM!
After dinner was game night and ice cream social. Some kids were gathered around the Wii at one end of a reception room, while dozens of others gathered around various tables playing a variety of card games. Honey and I learned how to play Bunco and another fun dice game called Neighborhood - thanks Jennifer, Rick and Casey for showing us how! Then some of us took the kids for a walk along the beach, collecting shells (or, as I call them, “specimens”). I’ve got a great collection growing and Rick told me of a great beach in Hilton Head to hit up for shells. Honey played Phase 10 with a big group of family. After my beach walk, I tried playing Blackjack with a couple of the kiddos. Is it wrong of me to be teaching children how to gamble? Even if we used sugar and Sweet n’ Low packets in lieu of money? Anyway, it was fun. Until the hotel staff kicked us out a little while ago. Bummer.
Only a small handful of family couldn’t make it this year but one in particular, Jenny Lee, because she’s been very pregnant with the first of the next generations of Barretts. And we just got word tonight that she had her baby today!!! Named him Barrett Christopher Jackson. What exciting news to hear at a reunion! I can’t wait to meet the little guy…ya’ll know how I feel about babies and their little footses!
I really started missing Scarlett and Dobby and the cats today. It’s been nice having a break from all of them for the past couple days: I can leave my used Kleenex in a pile on the floor without fear of them collecting and shredding them throughout the room! But I miss them now. I’m sure they’re having fun fun fun at GrandpaDave’s Resort and Farm. Dobby will probably blog about it soon (dad: *hint* *hint*).
I’m supposed to meet the kids on the beach in the morning after breakfast to go digging for some kind of creature…crabs or clams or something like that. I’d better get a good night’s sleep for that. Tomorrow’s our last day at this beach, we’re headed to Hilton Head on Friday. I’ve got great pictures of game night tonight but uploading pictures to this page is such a big pain that I’m going to wait till tomorrow to throw some up here. Keep checking…
P.S. I enjoyed a “red white and blue pina colada” tonight with dinner! It was just a pina colada with some grinadine and blue curaco in it to give it the colors. Tasty!
